This morning I woke from a call from my mom. She was in tears. Her friend and coworker's oldest son died in a motorcycle accident during the middle of the night. He was 21 years old. She just called to say she loved me.
I couldn't help but think of home - growing up in a small town where everyone knew everyone. At times I didn't know if it was a blessing or a curse, especially at times like these, when someone was taken way too soon. My heart breaks for the family.
So, I had a burning in my own heart when I painted this picture of burning sugarcane. Sugarcane surrounds my small town in South Florida and I always enjoyed watching the cane burn before it was harvested. I just wish sweet Cameron had the chance to watch it burn again.
